Step 1: Documents and papers to prepare

Application form for a certificate of marital status
Excerpt of the judgment recognizing a consensual divorce in case the Vietnamese citizen is divorced
Death certificate in case the husband or wife dies
Previously issued certificate of marital status in case of re-issuance of the certificate for use or want to re-issue the certificate
Certified copy of ID card/CCCD
Household registration book

Step 2: Submit application

According to Article 21, Decree 123/2015/ND-CP, citizens can submit application to the People's Committee of the commune where the Vietnamese citizen permanently resides to issue a Certificate of marital status

In case the Vietnamese citizen does not have a permanent residence but has registered for temporary residence in accordance with the provisions of the law on residence, the People's Committee of the commune where that person has registered for temporary residence shall issue a Certificate of marital status

Step 3: Process the application for verification of marital status

After receiving a valid application, within 03 working days, the judicial - civil status officer shall check and verify the marital status of the applicant.

If the applicant meets the conditions and the issuance of the Certificate of marital status is in accordance with the provisions of law, the judicial - civil status officer shall submit to the Chairman of the People's Committee for signing and issuing 01 copy of the Certificate of marital status to the applicant. The content of the Marriage Status Certificate must accurately state the marital status of the person requesting it and the purpose of using the Marriage Status Certificate.
